Access via air is served by two national airports, Tivat and Podgorica,
and two airports in neighboring countries, Croatia (Dubrovnik) and Albania (Tirana).
Podgorica airport is Montenegro's main international airport. It is situated 12km
(7.5 miles) south of Podgorica. It is a hub for Montenegro's national airline
carrier, Montenegro Airlines, which maintains regular flights from Podgorica to
Belgrade, Budapest, Zurich, Frankfurt, Ljubljana, Paris, Rome and Vienna. Traveling
time by car is one hour. Helicopter charters are also available. Tivat airport
is situated near the city of Tivat, the Montenegrin coast. It has regular flights
to Belgrade throughout the year, and has charter flights to major European destinations
during the summer. Tivat airport is 20km from Budva and Herceg - Novi and 60km
from Bar. Traveling time by car is three quarters of an hour. Helicopter charters
are also available. Dubrovnik airport in Croatia is a half hour drive from Montenegro's
border and the coastal city of Herceg - Novi and is served by many major airlines.
By Train There is a regular passenger train service from Subotica
through Novi Sad and Belgrade in Serbia. The train goes through the Montenegrin
northern cities: Bijelo Polje, Mojkovac, Kolasin, Podgorica and ends in Bar, Montenegro's
main seaport; the journey is then continued by road towards Budva (the distance
from Bar to the location is 60 km). There is a local train service, operating
from Bar, through Podgorica, Kolasin, Mojkovac and Bijelo Polje and further toward
Serbia. By Car The European routes E65, E80, E762, E763
and E851 pass through the country.
By Ship There are regular
ferry lines from Bar to Bari and Ancona in Italy. Lines operate almost daily through
the year, and get more frequent during the summer. Voyage to Bari takes around
10 hours. Local sea taxis are available from Bar and Budva. |
